Comparison with Child Assessments

  • Study Overview. This study examines the relationship between two assessments administered by a member of the ENHANCE research team and the COSF rating assigned by the child’s interdisciplinary team. Children are administered the Battelle Developmental Inventory, 2nd edition, and the Vineland Adaptive Behavior Scales, 2nd edition, near program entry and again near program exit. Moderate correlations between assessment results and COSF ratings are predicted because the COSF rating reflects a team process incorporating multiple sources of information.
  • Sample. Six state EI agencies and six state ECSE agencies have partnered with ENHANCE to collect new data to investigate the validity of COSF data. Each state agency has identified 3 local areas for study participation for a total of 18 local EI and 18 local ECSE areas. In each area, 6 children will receive these additional assessments at entry and exit, resulting in data on 108 children in early intervention programs and 108 children in preschool special education programs.
  • Status. Data collection for this project is underway. Because of the longitudinal nature of the data collection, this study will continue until each of the children has exited the program.
